For the Recovery Room scenes, I pursued a look that sampled a documentary philosophy paired with traditional approaches to film lighting. It was important to give the audience a genuine feel of what a Recovery Room looked like while using just enough augmentation through the lighting to achieve a commercial quality. This example discusses how I blended the two ideas together.
In this example, I was limited with my ability to light and introduce camera movement due to the size and technical limitations of the Operating Room. Instead, I focused solely on the mise en scène and approached photographing this room purely as a documentarian.
Showing the technology involved with spine surgery was really a treat to me. I took a lot of pleasure in finding a mood and a set of angles that would take a common piece of equipment and give the world a different perspective on what they thought it was like.
