For this particular film, we were quite limited in terms of lighting fixtures. This then made the challenge of lighting large spaces a fun exercise. In this frame, I had to do more with less so I used a hard light to rake the background to evoke the sense of daylight pouring through a window. During prep, there was much discussion about the feel of the artistic rendition scenes. We realized that the mission of the film was to talk about how Preface Project was able to bring light to a darkened corner of public education. In this frame, there was the situation of really needing to create the right kind of contrast so that there could be separation between each of the players, but also to maintain the dramatic look. Our Gaffer did a wonderful job in placing "hot spots" in certain areas without washing out the entire look. On that note, it's worth saying that only 3 lighting fixtures were available for this scene; I
